The Gopher Women's Gymnastics Team on Senior Night, March
22, 2008.

Photo from the
recently renovated 4th floor of Piek Gym, Minneapolis campus of
the University of Minnesota:
featuring
the "Statue of
Stature"
- Please remove
shoes before entering the gallery.
- Please no flash photography.
- Please remain behind the black line for
security reasons.
The "Statue of Stature" is a chrome and iron sculpture.
It portrays a realistic representation of Gopher gymnast
Ashley Mutchler performing on the gymnastics floor. Over one hundred
seventy pre-1985
automotive bumpers were recycled to create the
statue. The nearly three tons of melted,
recycled metal could have encircled the Twin Cities in a
ribbon of chrome... with enough ribbon left over for a giant bow the
size of Coon Rapids.
Statue of Stature was sculpted by renowned sculptor Cameron Raymond in
2007. His previous work includes the statue-fountain Kelly, featured in
the novel Hopes and
Dreams: Stuck on AutoDrive.
The Artistic Gymnastics Gallery (AGG) gift shop is open on alternating
Wednesdays and Fridays (when school is in session). Note: The sterling
silver "Gymnastic Rings" earrings are no longer available.
