Vikings
20, Panthers 10
Heading into the HHH Metrodome
was like a death
match for many tailgaters, knowing too well that the Vikings had an 0-2
record, while the Panthers had a 2-0 record... knowing too well that QB
Tarvaris Jackson had been benched by Childress... and knowing that
Adrian Peterson was questionable due to a hamstring injury.
As the hushed crowd quietly
headed to the stadium, a few of us talked and joked around. Okay, it
was me.
Record schmecord. We didn't care. We have a longer running record. When
we are
there, the Vikings win. It's not luck, so much as undefeatable
confidence.
The Panthers got ahead by ten at the start of the second quarter.
That's where the Vikings stopped them. The Vikings defense
prevented the Panthers from scoring the rest of the game by
consistently pressuring and hurrying Panther's quarterback
Jake
Delhomme. Left Cornerback Antoine Winfield got a touchdown after
blitzing Delhomme, recovering the fumble, and running the ball 19
yards. Middle linebacker E.J. Henderson had 11 tackles.
The Vikings offense
covered Gus Frerotte, giving him time to pass for 204 yards
and a touchdown, scored by tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. Adrian
Peterson, less than fully covered, ran for 77 yards on 17 carries.
What a perfect game!
