Not Russia
August 29, 2014

Earlier this week, Canada put out a map labeling Russia as "Russia" and the Ukraine as "Not Russia."

That's the Canadians, eh?

Yet the map had too many unanswered questions. It had holes you could drive a tank through, so to speak.

So the helpful Gif Animators here at Hopes-and-Dreams.net decided to fill in the rest of the map.

That's what this is all a-boot.

Beauty, eh?

The Ferguson Dialogue
August 28, 2014

As a representational democracy, the governments of the United States -- federal, state, city, and county -- must represent all its peoples.

Rich or poor.
Black or white.
Everyone.

Stop being afraid of other humans, religions, classes, nations, and stop being afraid of speaking out. Stop being afraid of terrorists because you know that's what they want.

And the police must operate within the law. They are not above the law.

Dangerous Colleges
August 19, 2014

College should challenge minds. College should not challenge legal rights.

Far too many colleges do not treat sexual assault and rape seriously.

The New York Times recently reported the story of a freshman at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in central New York, who ended up regretting reporting that she was raped.

That's not a lesson schools should teach.

In May 2014, the U.S. Department of Education released a list of colleges by state with sexual violence investigations:

Date Rape Drugs - Two studies, 2007 Study & 2009 Study, indicate the most common date-rape drug is alcohol, not Rohypnol or GHB. Yet inventors are creating common objects (nail polish, plastic cups, and straws) to detect date-rape drugs. Even armed with special gadgets, people still need to drink responsibly.

225 Jewish Survivors of Nazi Genocide
Condemn the Massacre of Palestinians

August 18, 2014

As they say, “Genocide begins with the silence of the world.â€

225 Jewish survivors and descendents of Jewish survivors of the Nazi genocide have signed a letter condemning Israel’s massacre in Gaza and calling for an end to the genocide of the Palestinian people. In the letter, they also speak out against the abuse of their histories to promote the dehumanization of Palestinians.

The Letter:
As Jewish survivors and descendants of survivors and victims of the Nazi genocide we unequivocally condemn the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza and the ongoing occupation and colonization of historic Palestine. We further condemn the United States for providing Israel with the funding to carry out the attack, and Western states more generally for using their diplomatic muscle to protect Israel from condemnation. Genocide begins with the silence of the world. We are alarmed by the extreme, racist dehumanization of Palestinians in Israeli society, which has reached a fever-pitch. In Israel, politicians and pundits in The Times of Israel and The Jerusalem Post have called openly for genocide of Palestinians and right-wing Israelis are adopting Neo-Nazi insignia. Furthermore, we are disgusted and outraged by Elie Wiesel’s abuse of our history in these pages to promote blatant falsehoods used to justify the unjustifiable: Israel’s wholesale effort to destroy Gaza and the murder of nearly 2,000 Palestinians, including many hundreds of children. Nothing can justify bombing UN shelters, homes, hospitals and universities. Nothing can justify depriving people of electricity and water. We must raise our collective voices and use our collective power to bring about an end to all forms of racism, including the ongoing genocide of Palestinian people. We call for an immediate end to the siege against and blockade of Gaza. We call for the full economic, cultural and academic boycott of Israel. "Never again" must mean never again for anyone!

Quote Association: this will take some explaining... at one of his earliest filmed standup shows, Robin Williams wandered through the audience, passed near one of those round convex mirrors up in a corner, and he referred to the mirror as a "People Aquarium."

Richard Nixon would tweet his life if he lived today.

Nixon would be on Twitter as soon as there was a Twitter.

Resign from the Presidency? Sure.

Resign from Twitter? Never.
